A quick trip to the Sahara

I have just returned from a 7-day trip to Morocco, part holiday and part remote working. A journey to the Sahara Desert gave me some lifetime memories that I’ll cherish 🏜️ 🐫

This solo trip was my first in 20 years, and it was a challenge I set for myself. While it was lonely at times, the experience was overwhelmingly positive. It helped me gain clarity of thought and boosted my confidence in my skillsets: communication, adaptability, and problem-solving. It was a quick way to remember and realise my strengths and weaknesses.

Some might say this is predominantly personal and not business appropriate, but for me, it is. This short experience shared many traits with my recent transition into consultancy. Defining my strengths and weaknesses after being part of a larger company has been challenging at times. It’s an ongoing process, but understanding these aspects enables me to better define what I’m about, how I can best help my clients, which services I provide, and when to call upon partners to assist my clients. It’s a strength to be honest about where your expertise does not lie, just as much as it is to understand where it does. Clients appreciate honesty and transparency and this makes for stronger long term relationships.
